My mother liv es in the adorable little Cental Coast beach town of Cayucos, CA. We will be heading over Saturday, and staying through the 4th. This town is a big party on the 4th, and they have a parade where the floats need a designated driver.
My son’s Subie will be joining us on this trip, supplanting the original idea of my son driving the Sunchaser in the parade with my mom in the passenger seat. Oh, well.
The exciting part is that Oppo CaptDale lives nearby, and he can weild the power of the employee discount to replace the head gasket and timing belt. (Thank you!) Neither appears to be a problem at the moment (no oil leaks), but I am having them done because Subaru of unknown provenance.
The Sunchaser will be washed and covered for the week, but that does not mean we travel without any fun at all.
When we bought my wife’s QX60, I made the dealer install the OEM hitch kit, something you NEVER see on these cars, which have shit for towing capacity. (Crossovers are not trucks, people). I even got her the Infiniti logo hitch cover, which my son thinks is cool.
I have a hitch mounted platform that is more than adequate for my 238 pound little w asp. We brought the Vespa last year, and it was perfect for zipping around a little town clogged with tourists and no parking.
So yes, when I go on vacation I take my toys with me. Wouldn’t you?
Toby is going too.

My 2014 pathfinder has oem hitch with towing package and can tow 5000lbs
2017 and newer can tow 7000 now I think
So that is far from nothing

I think my Grandma either put an offer on a house in Cayucas, or is putting an offer in. Either way, I love that town.

My dad uses his tow button on the Tundra as a Sport button. I get a good kick out of it.

In the Tundra it stays in a lower gear in general and avoids shifting up. I don’t think it’ll even go into 6th. That’s an entire 33% of what the ISF does haha.

Suspicions confirmed? I got the sense that Cayucos was basically a retirement community with vacation rentals. I believe I’ve stopped there once to stay in a hotel on a long weekend drive up/down the coast.
Sounds like an interesting way to spend the holiday.
Tell me more about the QX60. I reserved a 3-row 7-passenger “ SUV” for my vacation this coming week and it’s marked as a Discovery or QX60 . Will it actually fit adult humans in all three rows (one small/short and expected to be in the back row )? Good/bad for road trips and extended periods inside?

it’s the less fancy QX 60
Honestly I like my CVT in my path. No fake shifts, just smooth constant acceleration.
I wanted nothing to do with the pathfinder before trying it to cross off my 7 passenger shopping list....but it was miles better than the Flex and better millage and better prices than the highlander.
Local T oyota dealer was trying to sell year old used highlander for more than a new one, and when i told them that they just aid, well good luck trying to find one. So i said fuck you Toyota.....

I love Cayucos. One day, I would like to be one of those wealthy retirees. Or just continuing my dream of a small ranch on the central coast. Have a great weekend!

I wish I could have a small ranch here too, but then I could have a massive ranch in Colorado...

I like Colorado (flying there tonight, actually) but I love the central coast. I would be alright with a few acres and a slight ocean view versus a huge Ranch in CO. Plus, winter is a lot easier haha.
OPPO group buy? lol

Throw up a few Binishells and build out a nice shop and car storage. Have a small solar area and set up a few pumps for desalination haha
